Happy 2026! Easy living room updates: Sage green and buttercream

The holidays are over and the glorious, glittery, messy aftermath of holiday cheer has left a pile of clutter and debris in its wake. If your living room currently looks less like a cozy haven and more like a wrapping paper explosion zone, trust me, you are not alone!

Mine is definitely feeling the holiday hangover. Think tangled string lights, piles of paper, and enough gift boxes to build a fort. But now that we’ve rolled into 2026, I felt that familiar itch for a fresh start. And what better place to begin than the heart of the home – the living room!

Before we dive into the “after” shots, let’s take a peek at where we started… or, shall we say, the “holiday chaos” phase.

Ugh! Not a good look. Lots of cleaning up to do

Yep, pretty real, right? But fear not! With a little elbow grease, we can make this room back into a personal sanctuary. The goal? To not just tidy up, but to set a calm, inspiring tone for the entire year ahead.

Our Secret Sauce: The 2026 Spring Color Palette!

Sage green and buttercream color inspiration palette

Now, you know I love a good trend, and 2026 is looking utterly delightful. We’re talking serene, sophisticated, and utterly calming. The 2026 Pantone color of the year is a gorgeous (if not somewhat controversial) Cloud Dancer off-white. It’s so easy to use and lends itself to many color palettes and combinations. My personal favorite to combine for the upcoming Spring? The gorgeous pairing of Buttercream & Sage!

Why these two, you ask?

Together, they create a palette that feels fresh, airy, and utterly timeless. It’s the perfect antidote to the holiday hustle and carries over from the neutral, cozy holiday color theme of sage green, cream and beige that I was obsessed with.

The “Fresh Start” Look: Get Ready to Relax!

After tackling the mountain of holiday debris, it was time to bring in a fresh look. Minimalist vibes, cozy textures, and those gorgeous Buttercream and Sage accents. I also recommend rearranging the furniture a bit once the tree is out. Small tweaks can go a long way towards refreshing the vibe!

Doesn’t that just make you want to sink into that sofa with a good book and a cup of tea? To get the look, try (links are affiliate):

The beauty of this palette is how versatile it is. You can easily swap out smaller accent pieces seasonally, but the core foundation remains chic and inviting.

Your 2026 Reset Starts Now!

I hope this little living room glow-up gives you some serious inspiration for your own New Year’s Reset! It’s amazing how much lighter and more energized you feel when your space reflects the calm you’re striving for.
